Toby Ryan - Uncut

Roxwel.com's Toby Ryan comes from humble beginnings, but has matured…if that's the right word…into a mini-media mogul, with his finger squarely on the pulse of the ever-expanding independent and alternative music scene. Toby recalls, "I'm from a small hick town - believe it or not, I grew up riding horses and palpating cattle. Don't know what palpating means? Look it up!"

"When I was a kid, I thought DJ's were 'cool' (hey, I was young, I didn't know any better!). So I decided when I was 12 years old that I wanted to be a 'cool' radio DJ, too. I spent the next 10 years throwing away my education by taking Speech, Theater, and other Radio, TV, and Film-related classes (kids, don't try this at home!)."

"I went to college in Brenham, at Blinn College... or Blindergarten as we called it. After about a year of dealing with 'High School: Part Two', I'd had enough. I decided to move to Austin in January of '95 to continue my 'higher' education and break into the 'glamorous' world of radio. Upon graduating from Austin Community College with my prestigious degree in Mass Communications, my job opportunities were vast!" he says with a sly wink.

Toby then secured a part-time gig at Austin's 101X taking airshifts whenever they would offer them. "Flash-forward to now, and I have since worked every airshift the station has to offer... swing, overnights, board op, mid-days, morning show (the worst 3 months of my life!), and finally landing in the shift God intended me to work... AFTERNOON DRIVE! I must admit, I do love my job...like a fat kid loves cake (thanks 50 Cent!)!"

Toby's experience on the air at 101X led him to Roxwel.com where he now hosts the original program, UNCUT, and gets to get intimate with today's biggest rock stars…well sort of. Toby's in-depth, uncensored, and unrivaled interviews have made him, and UNCUT, a must-stop on artist agendas. Recent guests have included everyone from Velvet Revolver, Queens Of The Stone Age, Silversun Pickups, and Moby, to Spoon, Seether, and the recently-reunited Toadies.

When asked what does he see for himself in the future? "Two words. World. Domination. 'How Toby? How are you going to take over the world?' you may ask. Well, that's not important right now, just realize that one day I'll be running the show. Embrace the idea like warm death because the day will come." Toby's made a career out of never being short on words, and he's got no intentions of stopping now. "Oh, please believe it kids, I WILLSEE YOU IN HELL!" and y'know what…he very well might.
